Pro-Russian march to be organised in Budapest’s Heroes’ Square!
Ukrainians living in Hungary protested against a planned pro-Russian march in Budapest titled “Let’s express our solidarity with Russia”. The event’s venue will be the Hungarian capital’s iconic Heroes’ Square, while the time is 30 April, 1 pm.
Budapest police permitted the pro-Russian march
According to 24.hu, Jaroszlava Hartyányi, a board member of the Ukrainian World Congress and a former representative of the Ukrainian minority living in Hungary in the National Assembly, sent a written protest to the Budapest police headquarter. She wrote in the document that Russia started an aggressive attack against Ukraine on 24 February. Ukrainians have every ground to defend themselves, and they do not attack Russian cities.
Mrs Hartyányi added that the Russians commit massacres against Ukrainians on the territories they keep under military control.
The whole world protested against that, especially after seeing the mass graves in Bucha. She highlighted that an unknown person started to organise a pro-Russian protest in the Heroes’ Square. However, such an event would compromise both Hungary and Budapest.
Marching for Russia not a democratic right?
Mrs Hartányi said that the Ukrainian minority living in Hungary is peaceful. However, such solidarity with Russia would provoke enmities and harm Ukrainians and good-willing Hungarians alike. Furthermore,
a pro-Russian march in Budapest would compromise the policy of the Hungarian government, as well. Moreover, it would destroy Hungary’s solidarity, help and aid towards Ukraine and the humanitarian support the country sent to the war-stricken country.Â
Therefore, the Ukrainians living in Hungary asked the police to withdraw the march’s permission. They highlighted that the event had nothing to do with exercising democratic rights.
You can find the pro-Russian event’s Facebook event HERE. There are three organisers, and the event’s description is only available in Hungarian. But they say that they are fed up with the untrue statements of the media, the lies of Ukraine, the USA and the European Union. They added that such marches already took place in Cyprus and Germany. They also shared their problems in four points:
- We stand with Russia, with the Russian civilians and athletes!
- We condemn war, the USA is responsible for the war!
- We condemn the anti-Russian sanctions of the USA and the EU. Because of the sanctions, Central Europe becomes devastated and we face a food and energy crisis!
- We are fed up with the lies of the USA, EU and Ukraine!
